After the father of air pilot Larry Baker (John Wayne) is slain while working his job as a railroad engineer on the Hurricane Express train, Baker starts asking questions. He discovers that his father's killer, an elusive master of disguise known as The Wrecker, is working with a team of saboteurs to destroy the entire railroad. Baker leaves his job and devotes his time to tracking down The Wrecker, who uses rubber masks to disguise himself and elude capture. Baker uncovers a nest of suspects at the railroad: the General Manager (Tully Marshall), the railroad's slippery lawyer (Conway Tearle), an angry engineer who has vowed revenge (Matthew Benz), and the former General Manager and ex-convict Frank Stratton (Edmund Breese), father of Baker's new love interest Gloria (Shirley Grey), who helps Baker uncover the truth.
