A young boy named Roger Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is desperate to have a family. He's lost his mother and his father is come-and-go. He asks his dad when they will be a family again, and his family offhandedly replies, "When the Angels win the pennant." Really, he's saying that it will probably never happen, but Roger takes him at his word and prays for the Angels to win. As a result, heavenly angels begin to appear on the field that are only visible to Roger, helping the California Angels to suddenly start winning their games. The head angel, called "Al" (Christopher Lloyd), is particularly charismatic and befriends Roger. The manager of the team (Danny Glover) fortunately believes Roger, but a lot of people don't. They find that they face a lot of opposition in their angel claims. Roger finds that a miracle can heal everyone's hearts.
