Patti (Christina Ricci) discovers a hidden message on D. C. The Cat, left by the kidnapped maid, who has been mistakenly taken by bumbling kidnappers from a small Massachusetts town. She's scratched the message on the inside of a watch and slipped it around D. C.'s neck in the hopes that someone will come to her aid. Adventure ensues as Patti, along with D. C. (Darn Cat), set out to solve the mystery by playing amateur detectives . She's aided by several characters along the way, including an FBI agent named Zeke (Doug E. Doug) that's been assigned to the kidnapping case.
