“The Love Bug” is a family story about Herbie a not so ordinary car. The film follows the Volkswagen beetle’s journey from the showroom to the racetrack and on to victory. Enter now Jim Douglas (Dean Jones) an almost forgotten racecar driver and his drunken mechanic, Tennessee Steinmetz (Buddy Hackett) who both come into possession of Herbie. The car tends to drive on it’s own as well as make it’s own decisions. When Jim drives Herbie in a race he finds he can’t be beaten. Now, Peter Thorndyke (David Tomlinson) the dealer who sold Jim Herbie wants the car back and will do so in any way possible.
