Explorer David Innes (Doug McClure) agrees to finance the iron drill project of his professor Abner Perry (Peter Cushing). However when they take it for testing, they realize that the machine is faster than what they thought and they start going deeper into the earth. After crossing a hot layer of metal they find out that the core of the earth is cold. While trying to come back to earth, they land in a prehistoric sort of world where, in kingdom of Pellucidar, the Wing People are ruled by the monstrous, flying Mahars. David and Abner help the Wing people in fighting the evil.
