Bite the Bullet is the story of an extraordinary cross country horse race that stretches seven hundred miles throughout the southwest. Its participants vary greatly in their upbringing but what is similar amongst all of them is their great determination and resilience. Amongst them are ex-Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider, Sam Clayton (Gene Hackman) and the lovely Miss Jones (Candice Bergen). If these riders are to survive the incredible hardships of the journey they will need to respect each other and band together. Even with this newfound appreciation for each other, it is still a race and specifically a fight to the finish between Clayton and Jones.
