Tommy Albright (Gene Kelly) and Jeff Douglas (Van Johnson) are two New Yorkers who have gone to Scotland for a bit of adventure. While on a hunting trip, they become lost in the forest and stumble upon a town not appearing on their map. Tommy and Jeff are struck by the beauty and peacefulness of this small village. However, everything about this town is years in the past including customs and dress. While visiting, Tommy falls head over heels for the beautiful Fiona Campbell (Cyd Charisse) and Jeff meets the lovely Jane Ashton (Elaine Stewart). However the town has a mysterious secret. The village only appears every 100 years for one day. When the villagers go to sleep, the town disappears only to reappear 100 years later. When Tommy and Jeff discover the truth, they must decide if they wish to stay with this city for the sake of love, or return to their lives in New York. The night is slowly falling and time is running out.
