"Canadian Bacon" is a 'what-if?' movie about the fictional-current US president (Alan Alda) that decides to boost his approval ratings by going to war against Canada. Several people in his cabinet agree with this idea, but they don't realize that a small-town sheriff, Bud B. Boomer (John Candy) plans on taking things further instead of it just being a cold war against Canada. The idea that everyone hates Canadians helps the President decide to take Canada to war (albeit only a Cold War). He mostly uses the media to get the American public behind his motives, although he doesn't really plan on doing much towards Canada. Most of the movie revolves around Bud taking things into his own hands and exacting his own revenge on the country to his north.
