When Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif), who is known as the Lakeshore Strangler, is mortally wounded by Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon), he uses a voodoo ritual to transfer his soul in to that of a Good Guy Doll right before the store that he is in is burned to the ground by a lightning strike. The Good Guy Doll is the toy that Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) has been asking his mom Karen (Catherine Hicks) for, so she buys one from a homeless man. Well this Good Guy Doll turns out to be the one containing Charles Lee Ray's soul, and he soon begins a murderous spree amongst Karen and Andy's friends and family. When Ray discovers from his voodoo instructor that the only way for him to become human again is to transfer his soul into Andy's body it becomes a fight for Andy's life with the help of Detective Norris.
