A prequel to the first Cube movie, portraying for the first time what's outside the cube. The story follows the life of Eric Wynn (Zachary Bennett), a technician/director of cube workings (triggering traps, watching cameras, etc). The movie opens on a prisoner running the cube, and inevitably dying. However unlike the other movies, the camera pans out to a video feed, showing two people watching... Eric expresses disgust at one of the prisoners deaths while finishing up a game of chess with Dodd (David Huband) another technician (who seems unshaken about the whole thing). New prisoners are placed inside the cube: a dream showing that they were in fact captured exclusively for this purpose, and the usual cycle of 'Where am I!?' traps and death begins, meeting up with the other prisoners along the way. However, the dream was being recorded by Eric, who sees that they were not volunteers or facing a death sentence as he believed, and he promptly calls 'upstairs'. 'Upstairs' sends a higher ranked technician down to Eric's station, only to discover that Eric has gone into the cube, and using his genius and prior knowledge, with the intention to get the prisoners out.
