Allan Quartermain (Richard Chamberlain) agrees to help Jesse Huston (Sharon Stone) find her father, an explorer who has disappeared into the African jungles. What follows is a deliberately campy romp through Africa with African natives and German soldiers providing the drama. The story is a backdrop for snappy lines, funny setups, and physical humor. While little of H. Ryder Haggard's original story from the book survives, the plot is played mostly for the comedy, playing off of the distressed damsel and the treasure hunter motif.
