Arthur Bishop (Charles Bronson) is a hit man who is rapidly aging and growing nearer to retirement. One day he meets a young man named Steve McKenna (Jan-Michael Vincent), the two converse and eventually Bishop discusses his business with Steve. Steve becomes extremely interested in the art of assassination and asks Arthur if he can learn the business from him. Arthur after some convincing reluctantly agrees and Steve becomes his apprentice. As Steve gets better and better, Arthur begins to believe that he can finally quit his job and rest and peace, but as he soon discovers Steve’s first hit may come at the expense of his life.
