Mysterious Island is a film based on Jules Verne's book of the same name. Captain Smith (Kyle Maclachlan) escapes from a confederate prison with a small group of friends in a balloon. When the balloon comes down they are in a nearly deserted island. But they are not alone, they are attacked by huge insects and have to struggle to survive. While on the island they meet Captain Nemo (Patrick Stewart) who is working on a very important project. This project concerns making a bomb so powerful that it can destroy an entire city bringing up ideas about the atom bomb, which was first designed long after the book was originally published in 1874. Captain Nemo is not the only one to meet them there. Pirates have buried treasure on the island and will stop at nothing to find the other piece of the map and get the treasure.
