Joe Thanks (Terence Hill) is a charlatan who roams about a small town after falling out of a carriage while in sleep. He then finds his old friend Steam Engine Bill (Robert Charlebois), who travels with his attractive girlfriend Lucy (Miou-Miou). Joe, on knowing that Major Cabot (Patrick McGoohan), an officer in the U. S. Cavalry, is escorting a sum of $300,000 intended for Indian relief work , but Cabot has no plan to deliver the amount, chalks out a scheme to seize it. Bill resembles Cabot to some extent, and he has to disguise as Cabot, for doing the trick. But when Bill and Lucy are imprisoned, Joe must come to their help.
