Jim Hawkins (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) unhappily helps his mother (Laurie Metcalf) run an inn on a distant planet. His only thrills are solar surfing and reading about the space pirate, Captain Flint. When a ship crashes near the inn, Jim gets a high-tech treasure map from the dying pilot, Billy Bones (Patrick McGoohan). Space pirates destroy the inn, but Jim escapes with his mother and Dr. Doppler (David Hyde Pierce) to find the “Treasure Planet.” They charter a ship, but the crew mutinies and takes over. Jim, Doppler and Captain Amelia (Emma Thompson) escape to the surface where they meet a comedic robot named B. E.N. (Martin Short) who is missing part of his brain. Jim and B. E.N. return to the ship to get the real map, and are captured by the pirate crew leader, John Silver (Brian Murray). Forced to use the map to discover the secret of the planet, and the secret of Captain Flint’s ability to appear from nowhere, Jim discovers the missing part of B. E.N.’s brain. Once restored, B. E.N. warns the group that the Treasure Planet is about to explode. They manage to escape thanks to Jim’s solar surfing skills.
