Johnny Tremain is a Disney coming-of-age film set during the American Revolutionary War, based on the book of the same name by Esther Forbes. It begins with Johnny Tremain (Hal Stalmaster), a talented but arrogant apprentice silversmith, accidentally burning his hand while pouring silver. When it heals, his fingers are fused together and he can no longer continue with his apprenticeship, destroying his ambitions. He searches for work and eventually goes to his mother’s rich relative, Jonathan Lyte (Sebastian Cabot), who denounces him as a fraud, then ends up as a messenger for the Patriots and working with historical figures such as Paul Revere (Walter Sande) and Samuel Adams (Rusty Lane) to fight for independence. The film portrays not only the history of colonial Boston but its social, political, and culture climate.
