The Amityville horror tells the story of the George (James Brolin) and Kathleen Lutz (Margot Kidder) family, and a house they purchased in 1975 in Amityville, New York. Prior to their purchase, the house had sat empty for over a year, after the previous owner murdered his entire family while they slept. The Lutz family moves in with no reservations though, feeling that the home is the house of their dreams. Shortly after moving in, the Lutz family asks Father Delaney (Rod Steiger), a local priest, to bless the home. Father Delaney proceeds to bless the home, but is frightened while doing so and eventually leaves the home in a great hurry. Soon some very unusual and frightening events begin to take place in the home, and the Lutz family begins to believe the stories about the house being haunted.
