After Astronaut Taylor (Charlton Heston) went missing in the first film, Astronaut Brent (James Franciscus) was sent to look for him. Brent crash lands on the Planet of the Apes and is as confused as his predecessor at the advanced ape society. He follows Taylor’s trail and finds that he is in a place known by the apes as the “Forbidden Zone”. When he enters the zone he finds humans living deep underground in what remains of New York City. The humans there have great telekinetic powers which they have used to keep the Apes away. They are also religious zealots who worship a nuclear bomb that has caused them to be deformed. When the Apes decide to attack the humans in the Forbidden Zone it becomes time for a final showdown.
