"Father Goose" (1964) is a movie set during World War II. It is a movie about a man named Walter Ecklund (Cary Grant) who agrees to live alone on an island in the South Pacific so as to be able to scout out planes passing overhead. He agrees to do this alone and is happy alone there. However, he does not remain alone for long. The plot takes a lively twist when school teacher Catherine Frenau (Leslie Caron) arrives on the island. Catherine does not come alone. She arrives with a huge, lively bunch of her students. Not only is the crochety, short-tempered Walter Ecklund not exactly thrilled to have children around, they are all female and he is completely overwhelmed by so many women and himself being the only man. The children's capers are lively and entertaining, and constantly surprising Walter Ecklund, who seemingly has had little experience with children. Nevertheless, Walter is good-hearted and cannot ignore their needs. Walter continues to take care of schoolteacher Catherine Frenau and all of her students. Despite his resolve to be annoyed by the children, his heart softens and he allows himself to be entertained and care about them. Of course, the lovely Catherine saw he had a good heart from the beginning, and the story between Catherine and Walter unfolds in the movie.
