James (Paul Terry) ends up an orphaned child after his parents are killed. He is then sent to live with his two vile, ugly, and rotten aunts (Joanna Lumley and Miriam Margolyes) who treat the child miserably expecting him to act as the household servant. His adventures in the Giant Peach begin after saving a spider (voiced by Susan Sarandon) from certain death by his aunts. The animation portion of this movie starts when curiosity gets the better part of James and he crawls inside the Giant Peach in the garden. He encounters an interesting group of bugs, including a ladybug (voiced by Jane Leeves) and a centipede (voiced by Richard Dreyfuss) who accompany him during the exciting voyage to New York City.
