Philadelphia, 1916. Johnny Lawless (Tommy Steele) comes off the boat from Ireland and applies for the position of butler with millionaire Anthony J. Drexel Biddle (Fred MacMurray). The millionaire has just been bitten by one of his alligators and his daughter, an avid boxer, wants to have serious relationships and start education away from home. In all this turmoil, no one asks him questions, so he can start immediately as butler of the house. The millionaire created a happy home, with a lot of room for religion, physical and emotional education, but happiness away from home is unknown to the family.
